The head of the Iraqi Football Association, Adnan Darjal, announced that the federation has decided to move to a professional league system for next season, announcing its intention to sign a contract with the Spanish league associated with the move.

Darjal said at a press conference at the headquarters of the Iraqi Federation, “League competition will be held next season in accordance with the project of a professional league, and an association will be established for this league, and we will conclude a contract to establish a professional league. league project with La Liga (Spanish Football League) in the coming days.”

On the other hand, amid disagreements between the two Iraqi federations and their Iranian counterpart over the venue for the friendly match between their teams next month, Darjal stated: “The friendly match against Iran has not been canceled and there is contact with the Iranian federation and this issue will be resolved soon.”

The head of the Iraqi federation did not talk about the real reasons hindering the Iranian position and its refusal to play inside the capital of Baghdad.

The Iraqi federation has expressed a desire to hold a friendly match against Iran next March in the Iraqi capital, but its Iranian counterpart refuses to play the match in Baghdad and insists on holding it in the Iranian capital.
