The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, said that a presidential system would be more suitable for her country.
“We are deeply convinced that Italian democracy can become stronger and more solid through the presidential system,” Giorgia Meloni said in a video address at the second edition of the Democracy Summit organized by US President Joe Biden.
“It is a reform that I consider essential and may also represent a strong measure of economic development,” she said.
Emphasizing the intertwined relationship between economic development and democracy, Meloni said, “The higher the growth, the more appropriate level of social and economic development is achieved, and the population is more likely to choose the path of democracy.”
Likewise, she said, democracy brings about economic growth and shared prosperity.
