Jordan: $4.4 billion in foreign aid last year
The Jordanian government announced that the total value of Jordan’s foreign aid in the form of grants and soft loans over the past year was about $4.4 billion.
The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said in a foreign aid report released today, Monday, that this aid was distributed as follows: regular grants of $1.66 billion, including grants to support the overall budget of $1.12 billion, and the rest to implement development projects at the national level.
Additional grants to support the Syrian Crisis Response Plan totaled about $760 million this year, and the ministry said it represents 33.4 percent of the funding needed for the Jordanian Syrian Crisis Response Plan.
The volume of concluded concessional loans amounted to about two billion dollars, of which $1.47 billion is intended to support the general budget or sectoral support through the general budget, and the remaining amount is intended for the implementation of development projects through the relevant line ministries.
The ministry said the assistance is the result of King Abdullah II’s efforts “with fraternal and friendly countries and entities and support for the reforms that Jordan is pursuing,” as well as “an understanding by international and donor agencies of the urgent need for Jordan.” development needs and the magnitude of the problems and burdens it faces in various sectors”, in addition to “the impact of the continued intake of Syrian refugees and the demands for the provision and improvement of services in key sectors.
