French Soccer Player Paul Pogba Provisionally Suspended After Failed Doping Test

On Monday, Italy’s National Anti-Doping Court took the decision to provisionally suspend French midfielder Paul Pogba from the Italian soccer team Juventus. This comes after Pogba failed a doping test.

The Test Results

Paul Pogba tested positive for the banned hormone testosterone during a random steroid test. The test was conducted after the match between Juventus and Udinese in the Italian Football League on August 20. Pogba, who was on the bench during the game, was confirmed to have taken the banned substance.

Juventus’ Response

Juventus, Pogba’s club, has stated that they will now assess the next steps in the process following Italy’s anti-doping authority’s announcement of Pogba’s suspension on Monday.

The club issued a statement saying, “Juventus Football Club announces that the footballer Paul Labelle Pogba has received today, 11 September 2023, a warning order of suspension from the National Anti-Doping Tribunal following tests carried out on 20 August 2023.”

Potential Consequences

According to British news agency PA Media, if Pogba is found guilty of doping, he could face a ban of two to four years.

Reactions and Ridicule

Some have taken the opportunity to ridicule Pogba and his “disastrous” second spell with Juventus, suggesting that the only positive thing for him in Italy was the doping test!
