Moscow, March 2 – And six of the eight opening matches of the 1/8 finals series of the Gagarin Cup ended in victory for the teams with a lower rating, which became a new KHL record, according to the league’s official Telegram channel.
The current KHL playoff draw began on Wednesday with four matches, all of which ended in victories for teams with a lower base rank. On Thursday, two underdogs won their away matches – Sibir defeated Avangard Omsk (2:1) in overtime, and Dynamo Moscow defeated Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (3:1).
Earlier in the first round of the Gagarin Cup, no more than three lower-seeded teams had won their opening matches.
