Moscow, December 29 – The matches of the 15th round of the Spanish Football Championship will begin with a moment of silence in connection with the death of the three-time world champion in the Brazilian national team, Pele, according to the official website of the league.
Pele died on Thursday at the age of 83 after a long illness.
The match between Atlético and Elche will take place on Thursday at 23:30 Moscow time.

Pele (full name – Edson Arantes do Nascimento) is the only footballer in history who became the world champion three times as a player (1958, 1962, 1970). He shares with Neymar the top scorer in the history of the Brazilian national team, scoring 77 goals in 92 matches. At the club level, Pele represented the Brazilian Santos for 18 years, and played for the American team New York Cosmos for another three years, in which he finished his career in 1977. Pele is in the Guinness Book of Records for the most goals in his professional career – according to some reports, the Brazilian scored 1281 target.
In September 2021, Pele was diagnosed with a colon tumor. In 2022, he is hospitalized twice at the Albert Einstein Hospital for activities related to the treatment of three malignant tumors (bowel, liver and lung) and a urinary tract infection. On November 30, 2022, Pele was hospitalized unscheduled for general body edema, including heart failure, as well as disorientation.
