Liverpool footballer convicted in ‘assault’ case sentencing

On Thursday, the Premier League arbitration committee announced its official decision on an incident in which assistant referee Konstantin Hatzidakis elbowed Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson.

The committee said it would not take any action against the assistant referee in connection with the incident, which occurred late in the first half of the Reds’ 2-2 win against Arsenal on Sunday.

The incident occurred late in the first half when Robertson approached the assistant referee to protest, who raised his hand and punched the Scot in the face, prompting a wave of protests from Liverpool players.

The FA suspended the assistant referee pending the completion of the investigation, and he is now cleared of all charges and can continue to work.

The FA said in a statement today: “We have carefully reviewed all evidence relating to the recent incident at Anfield involving Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson and match referee Constantine and will not take any further action.”

“Our end-to-end process included reviewing detailed statements from Liverpool and the refereeing committee, as well as video footage from multiple angles regarding both the incident and the surrounding circumstances.”

After the incident, an enraged Robertson received a yellow card.

“I fully assisted the FA in its investigation and discussed this matter directly with Robertson during an open and positive conversation,” Kostantin said in a statement from the refereeing committee.

He added: “Of course I didn’t intend to make any contact with the player because I took my hand off him and apologized for it.”

He continued, “I’m looking forward to returning to headline matches.”
