Mahmoud Daoud Joins Brighton from Dortmund: Official Announcement
English club Brighton announced on Friday that they have signed Syrian-born German midfielder Mahmoud Daoud in a free deal from Borussia Dortmund.
The 27-year-old will join Brighton on a four-year contract on July 1 next year, after his contract with the German runner-up expires.
The Syrian-born player, who made two appearances for the German first team in 2020, became Brighton’s third signing, sixth in the league last season, behind Brazilian striker Joao Pedro and veteran midfielder James Milner.
Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbe said: “I am very happy to have Mahmoud joining my team. I’ve wanted him since I was with (team) Sassuolo and I’m sure he’ll be a high class player with us.”
Daoud, who has been a fan of Frenchman Zinedine Zidane since childhood, began his professional career at Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014 before moving to Dortmund in 2017.
Daoud made 141 appearances for Dortmund, but his participation was small as he underwent shoulder surgery last year.
