Malinin Dominates Short Program at World Team Championships

Moscow, April 13 – Figure skater Ilya Malinin, performing under the American flag, showed the best result in the short program at the World Team Championships, which are being held in Tokyo.
Malinin earned 105.9 points for his performance. The second result was achieved by South Korean Cha Jun Hwan (101.33), and the third – Frenchman Kevin Aimo (100.58).
After the first day of competition, the USA team leads the overall standings with 50 points. The second place is occupied by the South Korean national team (39), the third – the Japanese national team (36).

The World Team Championship will end on April 15th. The total prize pool for the World Team Cup is one million dollars.
The Council of the International Skating Union (ISU) on March 1, against the background of events in Ukraine, suspended Russian and Belarusian figure skaters, speed skaters and short track skaters from participating in international tournaments. In June, the ISU Congress approved this decision, which is effective until further notice.
