English newspaper The Times published a list of the six biggest English clubs’ total spending on their players’ salaries for the 2021/22 season and Manchester City weren’t in the lead as everyone is used to criticizing what they spend.

The newspaper revealed in its report that Manchester United paid out £384 million in wages and became the highest paid team.

While Liverpool climbed to second place with £366m on wages, driven by spending over £158m more on wages than they have spent on wages in the past six years, up 75%, than in 2017.

Liverpool have signed new, improved contracts since last season with a number of their players, Andy Robertson, Virgil Van Dyke, Jordan Henderson and Trent Arnold.

Liverpool’s players’ wage bill is expected to rise following the renewal of Egyptian star Mohammed Salah’s contract with the Reds last summer at a salary of £350,000 a week.

Manchester City, last season’s champions, finished third on the payroll with £354m, while Chelsea paid £333m.

Tottenham Hotspur have surpassed their north London rivals Arsenal on the salary scale to finish fifth, having paid their players £209m, £3m more than Arsenal currently top of the table. Premier League.
