The Wall Street Journal reported that the McDonald’s restaurant chain will temporarily close its US offices this week as it prepares to inform employees of layoffs to restructure the company.

In an internal email to U.S. employees and some international employees, McDonald’s asked them to work from home Monday through Wednesday so they can make hiring decisions. It is not yet clear how many employees will be laid off.

“Over the course of the week, we will communicate key decisions about roles and staffing levels within the organization,” the Chicago-based company said in a letter.

The report added that McDonald’s has also asked employees to cancel all face-to-face meetings with suppliers and other third parties at its headquarters.

In January, the fast food chain said it would review corporate hiring levels as part of an updated business strategy, which could lead to layoffs in some areas and expansion in others.

McDonald’s is expected to begin announcing major decisions by Monday.
