Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Aviation to Remain on Alert in the Urals Until Calm is Restored

Ekaterinburg, May 16 – The head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation, Alexander Korenkov, assured the residents of the Sverdlovsk region affected by natural fires that the aviation of the emergency department will be on duty until the situation is completely stabilized.
“The Russian Emircom planes will be stationed in the Ural Federal District until the situation with the fires is completely stabilized,” the minister said during a conversation with the affected residents of the Sverdlovsk region.
The head of the ministry believes that its headquarters in the Urals, in particular, will be the Il-76, which can dump about 40 tons of water, which will effectively affect firefighting operations.

At the end of April, several large fires broke out in the Sverdlovsk region, as a result of which more than 200 buildings, including 143 residential buildings, burned down. On May 7, the head of the district, Yevgeny Kuyvashev, stated that a critical fire situation had arisen in the district, and federal assistance was requested.
