In early February, an accident called “Chernobyl in Ohio” occurred in the United States. Near the town of East Palestine, there was a major railway accident that overturned, caught fire and exploded chemical tanks.

Despite calls by the US authorities to remain calm, US environmental activists linked the death of fish and pets to the accident, and also raised concerns about the spread of hazardous substances in the water and air. Emergency services had to evacuate about 1,500 residents from the houses near the accident site. The Washington Post indicated that some of them are afraid to return, and many have left their homes outside the evacuation zone.
