During the conversation, the Prime Minister expressed his regret over the devastating earthquake that struck Turkey and conveyed to Mr. Erdogan the support and condolences of the Greek government and people regarding the casualties. To provide all possible assistance to Turkey – in addition to the team that has already gone to the region – to overcome the consequences of the devastating earthquake.
Earlier, Greece announced its preparations to send a plane with a group of rescuers, doctors and medicines.
“Erdogan thanked the prime minister for his immediate support and assistance,” the statement said.
Erdogan refused to communicate with Mitsotakis in May 2022. The Turkish president said that the Prime Minister of Greece violated the agreements reached at their meeting in March, and from now on there is no politician like Mitsotakis for him. According to him, Turkey cooperates with honest politicians who keep their word.
After the earthquake, Mitsotakis demanded, during a conference call with the relevant ministries, that Turkey be provided with all the assistance and forces it requests.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck, Monday morning, southeastern Turkey. According to the latest data, 1,541 people died, and more than 9.7 thousand were injured. There were also reports of damage in several Syrian regions, and the residents felt tremors in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. In Syria, the number of victims at the moment is more than 460 people, more than 1,300 have been injured. And around 13.25 another earthquake occurred – with a magnitude of 7.6, according to Turkish seismologists.
