The Moroccan High Planning Commission indicated that its country’s inflation rate reached 8.9% in January 2023 amid rising food prices.

The delegate explained that this increase was due to a 16.8% increase in food prices and a 9.6% increase in transport costs.

The delegate reported that this figure was the highest since the 1990s, as the inflation rate for the whole of last year reached 6.6%.

The delegate’s data indicates that the recorded increase in food prices between December 2022 and January 2023 was in particular for vegetables by 3.3% and fruits by 2.6%.

As for non-food products, the decrease was in fuel prices by 3.2%.
