MOSCOW, July 18 – Roman Wilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, told the News Agency that the “abnormal” situation, when about 20 mm of rain falls in some areas of Moscow per hour, may be repeated on Wednesday night.
Earlier on Tuesday, more than a quarter of the average monthly precipitation fell in some areas of the capital in less than an hour, according to Moscow’s local economy complex.
The forecaster called the situation “truly anomalous” when 20 mm of precipitation falls in Moscow in one hour. He also pointed out that the biggest problem was the inability of the capital exchange system to deal with the elements. “At the same time, in all cities of the world, this problem is much more difficult to solve. In Moscow, it is still not bad. There is simply no way to absorb such a huge amount of precipitation at the same time in one, ”explained the forecaster.
