Netanyahu Receives Heart Monitor Following Hospital Stay
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was fitted with a heart monitor before he was released from hospital Sunday in “excellent condition.”
His office and hospital said he was admitted earlier Saturday evening due to dehydration.
The 73-year-old was taken to Sheba Medical Center near Tel Aviv with dizziness after spending the previous day in the searing heat of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel.
By late Sunday morning, Netanyahu had “completed a series of tests and is in excellent condition,” said Prof. Amit Segev, chief of cardiology at Sheba.
“Our diagnosis at the end of all examinations performed, including laboratory tests, was that the cause of hospitalization was dehydration,” he said in a video statement.
As part of the heart exams, Sheba decided to use a “hypodermic (implanted) Holter” on Netanyahu to “continue the regular monitoring” of his heart, Segev said.
Soon after, Netanyahu’s office announced that the prime minister had left Sheba Hospital.
Netanyahu, who was re-elected late last year, heads a far-right coalition whose proposed judicial overhaul has led to weekly demonstrations since January.
The prime minister is also on trial on corruption charges, which he denies.
In October, Netanyahu was hospitalized after feeling ill while observing the Jewish fast of Yom Kippur.
In a video message released Saturday from the hospital, Netanyahu said he had spent hours outside “in the sun, without a hat, without water.”
He urged Israelis to “spend less time in the sun” and “drink more water” in the wake of the country’s hot weather.
