North Korea Fires Cruise Missiles Amid Heightened Tensions

North Korea has recently launched multiple cruise missiles towards the western sea of the Korean Peninsula, according to the South Korean military. This comes as the latest missile launch by North Korea, following the firing of two ballistic missiles earlier in the week. The ongoing standoff between Pyongyang and Washington over North Korea’s nuclear weapons and missile programs has led to increased displays of military force by both sides.

Latest Missile Launch

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff reported the detection of several cruise missiles launched since approximately 4 a.m. local time on Saturday (1900 Friday GMT). These missile launches occurred just hours after a U.S. nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) made a rare visit to South Korea on Wednesday.

Nuclear Weapons Warning

In addition to the missile launches, North Korea issued a warning on Thursday that the deployment of U.S. aircraft carriers, bombers, or missile submarines in South Korea could meet the criteria for its use of nuclear weapons. This further escalates the tensions between the two countries and raises concerns about the potential for a military conflict.
