Oil Flowing Again: Iraq Resumes Supplying Jordan with Black Gold

Hassan Al-Khiyari, Assistant Secretary General for Energy at the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, confirmed today, Monday, that the transfer of Iraqi oil to Jordan has resumed in the same volumes and under the same conditions.

Last Thursday, Jordan and Iraq signed a memorandum of understanding on processing and transporting crude oil, under which Jordan will import 10,000 barrels a day based on the monthly price of Brent oil minus $16 per barrel to cover the difference in quality and transportation fees. .

Al-Khiyari added that work had been done to retransmit Iraqi oil to Jordan by tankers in accordance with the updated Memorandum of Understanding between Jordan and Iraq and on the same previously agreed terms of approximately 300,000 barrels per month.

According to previous statements by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabshe, volumes imported from Iraq account for about 7% of the Kingdom’s crude oil needs.

Jordan imported from Iraq, according to a memorandum of understanding signed with the government of Iraq, for the supply of crude oil from September 2021 until the end of March last year, and the volumes of oil amounted to approximately 4.5 million barrels.
