Morocco’s Soufian El-Bakali, who won the Olympic gold medal, successfully defended his world title in the 3000m hurdles at the World Championships in Athletics held in Budapest, Hungary.
El-Bakali Secures Victory
El-Bakali led the race with an impressive time of 8:03:54, defeating his toughest rivals, including Ethiopian Lamesha Girma, the current world record holder.

Girma secured the silver medal with a time of 8:05.44 e, while Kenyan athlete Abraham Kibut took home the bronze medal, finishing in third place with a time of 8:11.98 e.

Continued Dominance
This victory marks El-Bakali’s second consecutive world title, following his previous win in Eugene last year. The Moroccan athlete also clinched the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
El-Bakali has maintained his dominance in the 3000m steeplechase since September 2021, breaking the stranglehold of Kenyan and Ethiopian runners in the race.
