Ovechkin is recognized as the first star of the day in the NHL

Moscow, January 1 – Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the National Hockey League (NHL) club “Washington Capitals”, announced that he is the first star in last day’s match, according to the league’s official website.
Ovechkin scored a hat-trick against the Montreal Canadiens to help Washington to a 9-2 victory. The Russian, who is the second-leading scorer in NHL history, has brought his total to 806 goals and is 88 goals behind leader Wayne Gretzky.
