Moscow, December 24 – Forward of the Russian “Washington Capitals” Alexander Ovechkin scored the 801st in his career in the regular championships of the National Hockey League (NHL) and met Canadian Gordie Howe.

Ovechkin scored a goal against the Winnipeg Jets. This puck was the 801st of his NHL career. Thus, he equaled Gordie Howe in goals (801) and tied him for second in the league’s all-time leading scorers. Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL record for league goals with 894.
Ovechkin is a graduate of Dynamo Moscow, with whom he won the Gagarin Cup in 2013. The striker became a three-time world champion as part of the Russian national team. In 2018, he won the Stanley Cup with Washington. His current contract with the Capitals runs through the end of the 2025-26 season.
