Introduction

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, who recently led his team to victory in both the European and English championships, has dismissed any worries about the missed opportunities by his top scorer, Erling Haaland, this season.

Haaland’s Remarkable Performance

Haaland, the Norwegian international, had an exceptional season last year, scoring an impressive 52 goals and helping his team secure historic wins in the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup.

A Slow Start

This season, Haaland has scored seven goals in eight matches. However, recent analysis highlights that he has also missed 12 chances, including nine in his last two games against West Ham and Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade.

Guardiola’s Sarcastic Response

Prior to the match against Nottingham Forest in the English Premier League, Guardiola sarcastically responded to concerns about Haaland’s missed opportunities, stating, “I won’t lose sleep over it!”

Guardiola’s Perspective

Guardiola further commented, “Haaland has had numerous opportunities and could have scored 14 or 15 goals by now. What’s important is that he always believes in himself and keeps seeking those chances.”

The Real Problem

Guardiola explained, “The real problem arises when I don’t receive the ball or when I’m positioned incorrectly. So, my advice is not to overly criticize Haaland. Instead, direct your criticism towards the defenders, center-backs, or even the coach. But never criticize the one who has scored so many goals, or you might find yourself needing to apologize.”

Fitness Concerns

Guardiola acknowledged that Haaland, who is 23 years old, wasn’t fully fit at the beginning of the season. This is understandable considering the fatigue he experienced last season: “No, he wasn’t fully fit,” Guardiola admitted.
