Qatar Airways’ Revenue Soars to $1.2 Billion with the Help of the World Cup
Qatar Airways announced on Wednesday that it has made $1.2 billion in profits over the past year, boosted by its role in transporting fans to the World Cup.
The airline added that its revenue increased to $21 billion, up 45% from the previous year. The annual number of passengers reached 31.7 million, an increase of 71%.
The company said it carried 1.4 million passengers to the World Cup in Qatar. It has also expanded its network to over 160 destinations.
Qatar Airways operates out of a glitzy new airport in the Qatari capital Doha and competes with long haul airlines Emirates and Etihad which operate from neighboring Emirates.
The Qatar Airways brand is familiar to European football fans as it has partnerships with Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain. In the US, he has a business partnership with the Brooklyn Nets.
