Railroad Delayed for an Hour Due to a Stranded Parisian Cat
A cat stuck on the railway tracks at Paris’s Gare de Lyon station bound for Nice caused an hour-long delay on Thursday, a report said.
The incident, reported by France’s Le Parisien newspaper, came at just the right moment for the legal precedent that followed Kitty, as just days earlier a French court had imposed a hefty fine on national rail company SNCF after one of their trains failed to stop when a cat ran across the tracks.
This followed the “culling” of a cat named “Nico”, in January, after the cats escaped from a departing train, according to its 15-year-old owner. They said that the railway refused to stop the departure, despite the warning of the girl and her mother that the cat was under the train.
On Tuesday, the court ordered the SNCF, which was found guilty of negligence, to pay 1,000 euros ($1,090) to each of the cat’s owners for the death of “Nico” by the SNCF.
The newspaper reported that the railway cut off electricity to the station this time for an hour in order to get the cat out from under the tire of the TGV train.
In a sarcastic tweet, a French train fan wrote: “New cat under the TGV carriage at Gare de Lyon this morning. We squash the cat: no good. We stop the train and affect 1,800 customers with delays of up to an hour and 20: no good. Either way.” , we lose.
No doubt, playful French cats were happy to be alive, as were people who appreciated animal life.
