An official report stated that there has been an escalation of violations of the rights of foreigners in France in recent years.
French Ombudsman Claire Headon’s office has published a report on the fundamental rights of foreigners in 2019-2022, saying that access to residence permit applications and renewal services in the provinces were the rights most violated.
On Monday, the report stated that the number of complaints submitted to the office in 2022 about the issue increased by 9% compared to the previous year, and exceeded 125,000.
The report added that the number of violations of access rights for foreigners increased from 6,540 to 21,666 – an increase of 231% – between 2019 and 2022.
This rate increased by 450% in the Ile-de-France region, including the capital, Paris.
Most foreigners who came to France legally do not have access to placement services, Headon said, and these abuses disrupt the administrative system, causing many people to fall into the category of illegal immigrants.
