
Rospotrebnadzor has offered to help Malawi fight cholera

Moscow, January 23 – Rospotrebnadzor has offered to help Malawi in the fight against cholera, if it is interested, it is ready to send a group of specialists, transfer test systems and appropriate reagents, the agency’s press service reports.
“Rospotrebnadzor held talks with the Ministry of Health of Malawi regarding the ongoing cholera outbreak in the country. During the video conference, we discussed the current epidemiological situation in the country, as well as the measures taken by the Malawian authorities to combat the epidemic, ”the message says.
According to the Malawian side, the first case of cholera was recorded in March 2022, and today the number of cases has exceeded 26 thousand people, and more than 850 have died. The press service indicated that the situation is complicated by the rainy season, which witnessed a sharp increase in the number of new cases.

“Rospotrebnadzor offered methodological assistance, as well as assistance in organizing laboratory diagnostics and anti-epidemic measures. The Russian side also expressed proposals for the transfer of appropriate test systems and reagents,” the ministry said.
The press service explained that if the Malawian side is interested, Rospotrebnadzor is ready to send a group of specialists and hold informative seminars for Malawian colleagues on epidemiology, clinics and infection diagnosis.
