Russia’s defense ministry said Ukrainian missile strikes on a hospital in the Luhansk region killed 14 people and wounded 24 others on Saturday.

The ministry said a HIMARS multiple rocket launcher bombed the hospital in Novoidar.

The ministry’s statement came about 10 hours after the attack was announced. However, the ministry has not shared any videos or photos of the incident, and the information cannot be independently verified.

The hospital provided “the necessary medical assistance to the local population and the military for several months.”

Russia mainly occupies the Luhansk region.

The ministry accused Ukrainian forces of a “deliberate missile attack” on a civilian hospital, saying it was a “serious war crime committed by the Kyiv regime”. The statement said those responsible would be found and held accountable.

Russian state television published unverifiable images showing a destroyed building. A panel showing the clinic’s opening hours is superimposed. No people or ambulances are visible in the footage.

Kyiv did not initially respond to the allegations.
