Moscow, July 23 – The Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL) have announced the signing of Russian goalkeeper Ilya Samsonov, according to the club’s press service on Twitter.

Details of the Agreement

The contract between the 26-year-old player and the Toronto Maple Leafs is valid for one year, and Samsonov will receive a salary of $3.55 million.

NHL Arbitration and Salary Negotiations

Samsonov had previously taken his case to NHL arbitration due to dissatisfaction with the initial salary offer. Reports suggest that the Canadian club initially offered him $2.4 million per year, while the Russian goalkeeper demanded a salary of $4.9 million.

Player Background and Performance

Samsonov, currently 26 years old, had previously signed a one-year contract with Toronto for $1.8 million in the summer of 2022. In the 2022/23 regular season, he participated in 42 matches, contributing to the team’s 27 victories. Samsonov maintained an impressive 91.9% save percentage and a 2.33 goals-against average per game. He has made four shutouts.
