Moscow, July 6 – Dmitry Pegov, deputy general director of the company, said in an interview with the News Agency that Russian Railways does not abandon the idea of small-seat cars and expects to create such all-Russian trains.
Russian Railways, together with Russian Transmechsk, showed several new passenger car concepts a few years ago. One of them was a carriage with individual capsule-shaped seats. The first such trains are planned to be launched in 2023.
“The situation has changed since then. Of course, work is being done in this direction, but the deadlines have shifted for obvious reasons. Now railcar manufacturers are restoring production of previously produced cars, but with new, all-Russian components,” said Pegov.

He noted that the train consists of a number of elements, some of which were imported, and it is simply impossible to take and put the Russian elements in place. To do this, domestic components must go through testing cycles, meet certain requirements, and obtain certification, which sometimes takes time.
“We expect that an all-Russian double-decker train will be ready in the fourth quarter. Then we will start producing all-Russian capsule cars. We do not reject this idea,” said the deputy head of Russian Railways.
