Moscow, March 30 -/strong>. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) is ready to allow Russian athletes to compete in May if all conditions of the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) are met, according to the organization’s website.
The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee recommended, on Tuesday, that international federations allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who did not support the Omani federation to participate in international competitions as neutral athletes, while proposing that teams from Russia not be considered participants in international competitions in team sports. The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee also recommended that athletes associated with the armed forces or security services not be allowed to compete.
The ITTF has confirmed that Russian and Belarusian players will not be able to take part in the World Table Tennis Championships, which will be held from May 20-28 in Durban (South Africa), since qualification for the tournament was completed before the recommendations of the IOC Executive Board were announced.
The ITTF suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international competitions in March 2022. The organization notes that while this decision is reviewed, existing sanctions against Russia and Belarus will remain.
