Vienna, March 27 – Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s permanent representative to international organizations in Vienna, said in an interview with the News Agency that the implementation of the IAEA’s initiative to create a security zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP actually depends on Kiev.
According to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation, the implementation of the IAEA initiative to create a security zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP “in reality” depends on Kiev.
“Well, also from the Americans, who are long overdue in advising their friends in Kiev to take a more responsible approach,” Ulyanov added.

At the same time, according to him, he is not sure that the United States will influence the situation.
The Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation also added that if the Ukrainians suddenly confirmed tonight that they would not fire at the station, then after an additional “clock check” with Moscow and Kiev, Grossi would have reason to declare that the nuclear and physical security of the Zaporizhzhya NPP is under protection. “Naturally, the agency needs to carefully monitor compliance with the protection regime,” Ulyanov said.
Zaporozhye NPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River near the town of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity – the plant has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. Since March last year, it has been under the protection of the Russian army. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that this step was justified to avoid the leakage of nuclear and radioactive materials.
The Ukrainian army continues to regularly bomb Innerhodar and the territory of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, adjacent to the city. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Kiev regime is seeking to create the appearance of a threat of a nuclear catastrophe by continuing to intentionally bomb the ZNPP. The IAEA has repeatedly mentioned the need to create a security zone around the ZNPP.
