Saudi Arabia’s Generous Offer Modifies Benzema’s Strategies
A Spanish press report has confirmed that Frenchman Karim Benzema, with whom Real Madrid are looking to extend his contract, has received a tempting offer to leave the Santiago Bernabéu next summer.
Spanish chain Relevo reported on Sunday that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez was concerned about Benzema’s contract extension after he received a huge offer from Saudi Arabia (the network did not name him).
The report said Perez believes the huge financial offer Benzema has received could push him to turn down a contract extension with Real Madrid (which expires at the end of the season) and leave after he had initially welcomed it.
The report indicated that the reason for Real Madrid’s commitment to extending Benzema’s contract despite his advanced age (35) is that it is still an important part of the plan of Carlo Ancelotti, the meringue manager.
And the move of Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo to Al Nasr Saudi Arabia has sparked a desire among many international players to play in the Gulf nation.
Benzema, the only one from Real Madrid, is not wanted in the Saudi League, as is his Croatian counterpart Luka Modric, whose contract also expires at the end of the season.
