Spanish police have arrested a hotel worker in Madrid after he posted racist comments on social media about the Moroccan football team staying at the hotel.

A spokeswoman for the Madrid municipal police said the 27-year-old Spaniard was arrested at a hotel around midnight on Sunday and may have been charged with a hate crime.

She added that the police were sent in following a complaint by hotel managers about racist comments posted online, without giving details.

And the Spanish media published images claiming that the man had posted them through his Instagram account, showing a number of members of the Moroccan national team in the dining room of a hotel, accompanied by racist comments.

And the media reported that the worker later deleted the posts from his Instagram account and apologized before being arrested.

The reports sparked outrage in Morocco, which had joined Spain and Portugal earlier this month in a joint cause to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The Morocco national team, the fourth Qatari World Cup 2022, and after their historic friendly victory over Brazil (2-1) last Saturday, in the city of Tangier, traveled to the capital Madrid to play a friendly match against Peru today, Tuesday at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium ”, the stronghold of Atlético Madrid.
