Moscow, March 14 – The chairman of the supervisory board of Moscow “Spartak” Oleg Usachev believes that Alexey Zhamnov, the appointed coach of the club, will cope with the task of leading the team to senior positions in the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
On Tuesday, Spartak announced the appointment of Zhamnov as the club’s technical director.
“I am also sure that under him our team will show purposeful and interesting hockey, which, in turn, will not leave indifferent many fans of Moscow Spartak,” added the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Red-Whites.

Zhamnov has been leading the Russian national team since September 2021, and his contract with the national team expires in June 2023. Currently, the team does not play official matches, as the Board of Directors of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) suspended the Russian and Belarus national teams from international competitions indefinitely at the end of February 2022 due to The situation in Ukraine.
Under the leadership of Zhamnov, the Russian team became the silver medalist of the Beijing Olympics. As a player, he became the champion (1992), silver (1998) and bronze (2002) at the Olympic Games, bronze medalist at the World Championships. In the National Hockey League (NHL) he played for Winnipeg, Chicago, Philadelphia and Boston. After completing his playing career, Zhamnov worked as general director of Spartak, as well as Vityaz and Atlant near Moscow.
