Controversial Actions
In addition to Denmark, Sweden has faced widespread criticism for allowing public desecration of the Quran under police protection. Rasmus Paludan, a Danish-Swedish politician and leader of the far-right Stram Kors party, has burned copies of the Holy Quran in several Swedish cities, including Malmö, Norrkoping, Jonkoping, and Stockholm. One incident occurred outside the Turkish embassy in Sweden.
Momica gained attention when a copy of the Holy Quran was burned outside a mosque in Stockholm during Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic religious holiday. He also engaged in provocative actions such as throwing and trampling on a copy of the Holy Quran and the Iraqi flag outside the Iraqi embassy, as well as burning a copy of the Holy Quran outside the Swedish parliament.
Similar actions were carried out by Bahrami Marjan, an Iranian immigrant, in Angbebadt, a district near Stockholm.
Repercussions and Concerns
Despite the acknowledgment that these actions harm Sweden’s image and jeopardize security, Momica continues to obtain permission from the authorities to carry out these acts. The Swedish security services have expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in the country due to the repeated Quran burnings.
