“A decision has been taken to approve a regulation on a tourist tax of 150 baht (about $4.3) for travelers arriving in Thailand via sea or land borders and 300 baht (about $8.6) for those arriving by air,” said the minister, his words quoted. Newspaper “Khao Sot”.

“The fees will start on June 1, 2023. Passengers who stay in Thailand for one day only will not be charged,” the head of the Ministry of Tourism added.

Initially, the decision to impose a tourist tax in 2019 was discussed, but the decision was postponed three times, first due to the coronavirus pandemic, and then in 2021 and 2022, in order to restore the tourism sector after the pandemic. The new tax is primarily aimed at preserving the country’s natural sites and assisting travelers in emergency situations.
