On Friday, the Brazilian Football Confederation denied reports that it had reached an agreement with Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, who oversees Real Madrid, to lead the Selesao national team.

“This information is false,” the local federation said in a brief statement.

He continued, “The matter (of the new coach) will be dealt with transparently and the chosen coach will be announced in due course.”

Ancelotti, 63, said from the Moroccan capital of Rabat on the eve of the World Cup final against Saudi Al-Hilal that his goal is to complete his contract with Real Madrid.

Asked during a press conference before the final, the veteran Italian coach said: “My situation is very clear: I have a contract until 2024.”

Brazil, a five-time world champion, has been looking for a coach since Tite, who took over in 2016, stepped down from technical duties after Seleção was eliminated in Qatar’s World Cup quarter-final against Croatia on penalties.

Among the candidates put forward for the post of head coach of the Brazilian national team, the Spaniards Luis Enrique and Pep Guardiola, the Frenchman Zinedine Zidane and the Portuguese José Mourinho stand out, according to media reports.
