The French Parliament asked to hold a debate on the supply of weapons to Ukraine

Paris, February 4 – Communist Party leader Fabien Roussel said that a left-wing coalition in France had asked the prime minister to hold a debate in the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) on a strategy for supplying weapons to Ukraine.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron said he did not rule out the possibility of supplying Leclerc fighter jets and tanks to Ukraine. French Defense Minister Sebastien Licorne also said there were no “taboos” for Paris on the issue of possible shipments of fighter jets to Ukraine.

“It seems important for us to remember our original desire not to be complicit in the conflict (in Ukraine). That is why my colleague Andrei Chasin and I have asked the Prime Minister, on behalf of the Democrats and Republicans on the left, to organize a debate in the National Assembly on our arms supply strategy, “he says. It came in an article written by Roussel and published in the Journal du Dimanche.

He pointed out that the endless military escalation “has no certainty but death and destruction.”

Also, the head of the International Affairs and Defense Committee of the French Senate, Christian Cambon, recently expressed the opinion that the issue of possible deliveries of combat aircraft and tanks to Kyiv should be brought up for discussion in parliament.

And the Russian Federation has previously sent a memorandum to all countries, including the United States, over the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has indicated that any shipment containing weapons to Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying arms to Ukraine. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, noted that the injection of weapons into Ukraine from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative impact.
