The Greed of Men: DiCaprio and De Niro Face to Face in Scorsese’s ‘Killing of the Flower Moon’
DiCaprio and De Niro face to face
Acclaimed director Martin Scorsese’s latest film, Killing of the Flower Moon, is based on the book The American Note by David Grana. Scorsese has enlisted the talents of his two most loyal actors, Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, to tell this captivating story. The movie is set in the 1920s, during a time when the Osage Native American people found themselves in a fortunate position after discovering an oil deposit on their land.
This unexpected financial windfall allowed the Osage to improve their lives significantly. They purchased cars, built mansions, and sent their children to exclusive schools. For a tribe that had faced displacement and hardship in the past, this felt like a just reward from destiny. However, as they began to lease their land to developers, the promise of immense profits attracted speculators who cared little for the well-being of the Osage people.
One particularly sinister figure, William King Hale, portrayed by the talented Robert De Niro, hatched a despicable plot to seize the land. He was willing to go to any lengths, even if it meant eliminating anyone who stood in his way. Hale employed a manipulative strategy, using his nephew Ernest Burkhart to get close to the women of the Osage tribe. It was through his job as a taxi driver that Ernest encountered a woman named Mollie.
The trailer for the film reveals that Hale is relentless, and the movie is partly based on this chilling true story. Shockingly, all the main characters in the film actually existed, adding a chilling layer of authenticity to their portrayals on screen.
