Moscow, May 19 – The German national ice hockey team defeated the Austrian national team in the group stage match of the World Championships in Riga and Tampere, Finland.

The meeting of Group A, held in Tampere, ended with a score of 4: 2 (2: 1, 1: 0, 1: 1). As part of the winners, Niko Storm scored a double (5 and 59 minutes), Parker Tommy (17) and Wojciech Stachowiak (34) also scored. The losing team scored goals from Bernd Wolf (12) and Lucas Hadum (54).
The Germans, with six points, occupy fifth place in Group A. The Austrian team has one point in its balance and ranks last and eighth.
In the next match, the German national team will play Hungary on May 21, and the Austrians will meet the Finnish national team the day before.
The World Championships will end on May 28th. Initially, the tournament was supposed to be hosted by St. Petersburg, but the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) denied Russia this right. The Russian national team will miss the World Cup finals for the second year in a row.
