The pilot was killed and another pilot was missing after a Greek F-4 crashed
Greece’s Defense Ministry said a Greek pilot was killed after an F-4 fighter jet crashed in the Ionian Sea off the country’s western coast on Monday.
The ministry said rescuers were searching for the plane’s second pilot.
The semi-governmental Athens News Agency reported that the two-seater jet was conducting a training exercise when it crashed 25 nautical miles (46 kilometers) south of Andravida airport on the Peloponnese peninsula.
Greece first acquired US-made F-4 or Phantom fighter jets in 1974.
