The Republic of China recognized Shcherbakova as the best athlete of the Beijing Olympics

Moscow, December 20 – The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) recognized figure skating Anna Shcherbakova as the best athlete of the Beijing Winter Olympics and fencer Sofia Pozdnyakova as the best athlete of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

The ROC Awards Ceremony is being held in Moscow as part of the Forum of Champions and Prize Winners of the Tokyo and Beijing Olympics.

“Thank you very much for the award, I am very happy. I did not expect this, because everyone deserves,” Pozdnyakova said at the ceremony.

“For me, this is a great honor, because the level of our athletes is incredibly high, and receiving such awards is worth a lot,” Shcherbakova said.

Shcherbakova won the Olympic gold medal in the women’s single skating, and Pozdnyakova took golds in the individual and team saber championships.
