Moscow, February 22 – Oleg Ilchenko, vice president of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation, said that the Ukrainian national team is boycotting the men’s and women’s boxing world championships because of the participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in it.
On October 5, 2022, the International Boxing Association (IBA) announced the admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to the competition. Athletes can compete in international tournaments under the flags of their countries, and if they win, the national anthems will be played. Boxing federations of many countries, including the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland, refused to participate in the world championships due to the admission of the Russians.
