US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced the transfer of more than $1.2 billion in US economic assistance to the Ukrainian government.

Yellen said during her visit to Kiev, where she met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday, that this would be the first tranche of nearly $10 billion in economic aid the United States is due to provide Kiev in the coming months.

“Our economic support helps the government of Ukraine and critical service providers to continue operating under exceptional circumstances,” she added.

In her speech, Yellen emphasized the need for transparency in the reconstruction of Ukraine’s infrastructure and “rebuilding after the war.”

And she stressed that Washington will pressure other parties, such as the International Monetary Fund, to “do more.”

She indicated that Washington would work in coordination with its allies to prevent Russia from circumventing US sanctions.

Zelensky thanked the United States for “powerful support from the first days of the war, not only with weapons, but also on the financial front.”

It is noteworthy that the United States is considered the most supportive of Ukraine, having provided it with about $50 billion in aid since the start of the Russian military operation, including more than $25 billion in military aid.
