Washington, February 10 – Chris Covron, director of the Russian department at the US National Security Council, said the US should consider cooperating with the Russian Federation in the Arctic on vital issues.
“We’ve made exceptions in space and cooperate on issues of life and death, and maybe the same model will work in the Arctic,” Covron said at an event at the Woodrow Wilson Center.
At the same time, he noted that while the conflict over Ukraine continues, it is not worth counting on serious cooperation with the Russian Federation in the Arctic.
He pointed out that the Russian Federation is building its armed forces in the Arctic region in order to control it.
