The White House stressed the importance of maintaining military contacts with China

Washington, February 26 – National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the United States considers it important to maintain channels of military interaction with China to ensure stability.
Sullivan also lamented the Chinese Ministry of Defense’s refusal to “take calls” from Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin.

Tensions escalated between Washington and Beijing after then-Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August 2022. China protested against this visit, and shortly after its completion, large-scale military maneuvers began in the island’s waters.
