Tragic Fire Kills Dozens in Vietnamese Residential Building
In a devastating incident in the Vietnamese capital, at least 56 people, including four children, lost their lives and 37 others were injured in a fire that broke out in a nine-storey residential building. The incident occurred on Tuesday night, and despite the efforts of firefighters to control the fire, the narrow alley where the building was located made rescue operations challenging.
Dozens Trapped, Authorities Confirm Casualties
Reports from official media sources revealed that a significant number of individuals remained trapped inside the building until the early hours of the morning. According to the Hanoi police, out of the 56 confirmed deaths, 39 victims have been identified. The state-owned national television channel VTV reported that four children were among the deceased. Due to the transfer of the wounded and dead to different hospitals throughout the city, the initial reports regarding the death toll were unclear.

Injuries Resulting from Desperate Escape Attempts
Many of those receiving treatment in hospitals suffered from smoke inhalation and injuries sustained during their desperate attempts to flee the burning building. The cause of the fire, which originated in the building’s parking area that lacked an emergency exit, is currently under investigation. As part of their inquiries, the authorities have detained the building owner.
Prime Minister Offers Condolences and Calls for Improved Fire Safety
During his visit to the scene, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized the need to take this tragic event as a lesson and to enhance fire prevention and control measures. Prime Minister Chinh stressed the importance of strictly adhering to regulations to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future. Last year, another fire in southern Vietnam resulted in the loss of 32 lives in a karaoke hall in Binh Duong province.
