‘Tragic end’ for Spanish player under the wheels of a train
Former Spanish footballer Pelayo Novo died Tuesday at the age of 32 after he was hit by a train in the northwestern city of Oviedo.
And the Spanish media reported that the former second division midfielder with Elche, Córdoba, Lugo and Albacete, and he also played briefly for the Romanian Cluj, was crushed to death on the railway.
Spanish police have launched an investigation to see if the player’s death was “natural” or a suicide, according to the local press.
Novo took up wheelchair tennis five years ago after a horrific fall from the third floor of the Albacete team hotel in the northeastern city of Huesca in March 2018.
Novo developed a love of wheelchair tennis and eventually became a board member of the Paralympic Tennis Association.
He also became an ambassador for professional and ambitious athletes with special needs in his country.
