Tragic Gas Station Explosion in Dagestan: 30 Killed and Hundreds Injured
Deadly Explosion at Gas Station in Russia
On Tuesday, a massive explosion at a gas station in the southern Russian republic of Dagestan resulted in the deaths of at least 30 people and left hundreds more injured. The incident occurred in Makhachkala, the capital of the region.
Tragic Loss and Investigation
Among the victims were three children, according to Sergei Melikhov, the governor of Dagestan. The explosion was caused by a fire that broke out in a nearby car repair shop and spread to the gas station. The subsequent fire covered an area of about 600 square meters (6,458 square feet).
The Russian Emergencies Ministry reported a total of 105 people infected, with 30 fatalities. Some of the injured individuals will be transported to Moscow for treatment. Russian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into the incident.
Compensation and Mourning
The families of the victims will receive 1 million rubles (approximately $10,000), while the injured will receive compensation ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 rubles. In honor of the lives lost, Tuesday was declared a day of mourning in Dagestan.
Another Tragedy in Western Siberia
In a separate incident, two people were killed and five others injured in an explosion at an oil mine in Russia’s Khanty-Mansiysk region on Monday night.
The local authorities have reported that the blast occurred late in the evening. Further details about the incident are yet to be disclosed.
